PHYSICAL AND CHEMICAL PROPERTIES : Calcium hypochlorite is a widely used chemical compound , prepared by bubbling chlorine gas through a solution of calcium hydroxide. It  is generally available in form of  white powder , tablet or flatplates . It is an oxidising agent having  a strong smell of chlorine . It is not highly soluble in water but readily decomposes in it , releasing chlorine and oxygen . Though not flammable,  it acts as an oxidizer with combustible material and may react explosively with ammonia, amines, or organic sulfides. It should be stored in a dry place.

USES :  Calcium hypochlorite is a chlorinated inorganic disinfectant, widely used in water treatment . Its tablet form is mainly used for disinfecting drinking water  and  water in the swimming pool by killing various germs which leads in causing various dieseaes. It can also be used in cleaning irrigation and waste water system. It is one of the best and the most common  bactericide and  fungicide used .Being a bleaching agent it is also used as a cloth whitener.
